Flat roofs live and die by their drainage. When water has nowhere to go, it sits - and sitting water is the fastest way to shorten a roof's lifespan. That's exactly why scupper installations like this one matter so much.

Here's what we were working with: a custom-fabricated metal scupper that had to be fitted precisely into the parapet wall opening. The fit has to be tight. Any gaps in the metal work mean potential water intrusion, and that's not something you want finding its way into a building.

Once the metal was fitted and set, we sealed the entire perimeter - every edge, every seam. You can see the sealant worked all the way around the opening, locking the scupper in place and creating a continuous weatherproof barrier. No shortcuts. The goal is to make sure water moves through that scupper and off the roof, not behind the metal and into the wall assembly.

This kind of work doesn't get a lot of attention because it's not flashy - but it's some of the most important detail work on any flat or low-slope roof. Kansas City gets hit with heavy spring rains, and a properly drained roof is what keeps small problems from becoming major repairs down the road.

We do this kind of work every day at Upgrade Roofing and Remodeling. Custom metal fabrication, proper sealing, and getting the drainage right from the start - that's the standard we hold ourselves to on every job.
